Crochet kitchen decor

Crochet patterns for kitchen decor abound and with good reason! Cotton yarn makes for excellent crochet dishcloths, kitchen towels, pot holders, placemats, and more.

I have three kitchen crochet patterns that match this towel! There’s a dishcloth, hot pad, and placemat that are all part of the set.

Clarita Kitchen Set is a waffle stitch dishcloth and pot holder set.

Crinkle dishcloth is a beginner friendly crochet pattern and I have a roundup of many other beginner level crochet dishcloth patterns.

Almost any crochet square that is about 6 to 8 inches when finished can make a dishcloth when crocheted in cotton yarn. Two squares back to back and joined together with a single crochet edging make an excellent pot holder, provided that there aren’t very large holes in the design.

Shop We Crochet Dishie yarn

Note that Swan and Clementine are available in cones (760 yds; 400 g). This may be a good choice if you plan to make several items as the cones are a little cheaper than the same amount of yarn in skeins.

Notes

This pattern uses standard US terms. For help with abbreviations, get my free, printable crochet abbreviations list here.

See this tutorial post for help with basic crochet stitches.

This crochet kitchen towel will be made in columns that are attached together as you work them.

Each column consists of squares that are 7 sts wide and 8 rows tall. Each column of squares alternates between 2 colors. The first column will alternate Swan and Clementine Twist. The second column will alternate Clementine Twist and Clementine. And then working across the piece, you will alternate these two columns.

In the instructions, I will use the name Twist for the multicolored yarn so that it doesn’t get confused with the solid Clementine color.

To change colors between squares, at the end of the last row of the first color, when you work the last single crochet, insert the hook into the stitch and pull up a loop, then drop the first color and yarn over with second color, pull this second color through the two loops to finish the stitch.

In order to minimize the number of ends to weave in, I suggest that you carry the unused color of yarn up the side of your work. You will do this each time you make a turning chain on the side where you’ve changed colors. Lay the yarn to be carried across the top of the working yarn and then make the chain as usual.

For help with this stitch pattern, color changes, and carrying the unused colors, see the video tutorial for the matching dishcloth.

The stitch pattern below is used for the gingham kitchen towel. See the instructions after the stitch pattern for the numbers of squares and columns to be used.
