I respect your privacy. The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to inform you what personally identifiable information may collected and how it may be used. This statement only applies to this Website.

How Your Information is Collected

Information you voluntarily submit to the website: The website may collect personal information from you such as your name or email address. For example, you may voluntarily submit information to the Website by leaving a comment, subscribing to a newsletter, or submitting a contact form.

Analytics information.  The Website uses Google analytics tools to help measure traffic and usage trends for the Service. These tools collect information sent by your browser as part of a web page request, including the web pages you visit, your browser, your browser’s width and height, the website that brought you to the Website, and other information that assists us in improving the Service. None of this information includes or is attached to personal information about you.

Automatically-Collected Information: The website automatically collects certain information about you and the device with which you access the Website. For example, when you use the Website, we will log your IP address, operating system type, browser type, referring website, pages you viewed, and the dates/times when you accessed the Website. We may also collect information about actions you take when using the Website, such as links clicked.

Cookies information:  When you visit the Website, we may send one or more cookies — a small text file containing a string of alphanumeric characters — to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser.  A cookie may also convey information to us about how you use the Service (e.g., the pages you view, the links you click and other actions you take on the Service), and allow us or our business partners to track your usage of the Service over time. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive after you close your browser.  Persistent cookies may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the site.  Persistent cookies can be removed by following your web browser’s directions.  A session cookie is temporary and disappears after you close your browser. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.

Additionally, if you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Location data: When you access the Website by or through a mobile device, we may access, collect, monitor and/or remotely store “location data,” which may include GPS coordinates (e.g. latitude and/or longitude) or similar information regarding the location of your mobile device.  Location data may convey to us information about how you browse and use the Service.

Comments:  When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

Display Ads:  The Website uses SHEMedia to manage all third-party advertising on the Website. SHEMedia serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use cookies. SHEMedia may collect IP addresses and location to serve personalized ads.  If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit https://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp.

Retargeting Ads:  From time to time, the Website may engage in remarketing efforts with third-party companies, such as Google, Facebook, or Instagram, in order to market the Website. These companies use cookies to serve ads based on someone’s past visits to the Website. Facebook: Opt-out of Facebook remarketing here.

Google: Opt-out of Google remarketing here.

Affiliate Program Participation:  The Website may engage in affiliate marketing, which is done by embedding tracking links into the Website. If you click on a link for an affiliate partnership, a cookie will be placed on your browser to track any sales for purposes of commissions. Banana Moon Studio is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and links to Amazon.com.  As part of this Amazon Associates program, the Website will post customized links, provided by Amazon, to track the referrals to their website. This program utilizes cookies to track visits for the purposes of assigning commission on these sales.  See my full Disclosure Policy for more information. The Website also engages in affiliate marketing with Lion Brand Yarn, We Crochet, Knit Picks, Furl’s Fiberarts, Etsy, and Annie’s through Share A Sale, an Awin, Inc. company. Similarly to the Amazon program, a specialized link tracks your having come from this Website in order to pay me a small commission on any purchases you make. You can see the Privacy Policy for Awin, Inc. here.

Newsletters:  On the Website, you may subscribe to our newsletter, which may be used for advertising purposes. All newsletters sent may contain tracking pixels. The pixel is embedded in emails and allows an analysis of the success of online marketing campaigns. Because of these tracking pixels, we may see if and when you open an email and which links within the email you click. Also, this allows the Website to adapt the content of future newsletters to the interests of the user. This behavior is collected by Mailerlite, a service used by this site for collecting contact information and sending newsletters. The information collected through newsletters will not be shared with any other party.

Embedded content from other sites:  Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long we retain your information:

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Sharing Your Information:

Except when required by law, the Website does not sell, distribute, or give out your personal information, email address, or any other information to third parties.

The Website may share your information with third-party business partners for the purpose of providing service to you (e.g., email providers, server providers, etc.).  Those business partners will be given limited access to the information that is reasonably necessary to deliver service.

We may use the information collected in the following ways:

To operate and maintain the Website;

To send you promotional information, such as newsletters. Each email promotion will provide information on how to opt-out of future mailings;

To send you administrative communications, such as administrative emails, confirmation emails, technical notices, updates on policies, or security alerts;

To respond to your comments or inquiries;

To provide you with user support;

To track and measure advertising on the Website;

To protect, investigate, and deter against unauthorized or illegal activity.

Third-Party use of personal information

We may share your information with third parties when you explicitly authorize us to share your information.

Additionally, the Website may use third-party service providers to service various aspects of the Website. Each third-party service provider’s use of your personal information is dictated by their respective privacy policies.

The Website currently uses the following third-party service providers:

Google Analytics – this service tracks Website usage and provides information such as referring websites and user actions on the Website. Google Analytics may capture your IP address, but no other personal information is captured by Google Analytics.

Mailerlite – this service is used for delivery of email updates and newsletters. We store your name and email address for purposes of delivering such communications.

Akismet –  visitor comments may be checked through this automated spam detection service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

We generally store information about you for as long as we need the information for the purposes for which we collect and use it, and we are not legally required to continue to keep it. For example, we will store order information for 10 years for tax and accounting purposes. This includes your name, email address and billing and shipping addresses.

We will also store comments or reviews, if you choose to leave them.

Payments. No payments are collected on this site, however, we do sell patterns through Ravelry and Etsy. You can refer to their websites for details about their privacy policy and the information they collect.

When you may make through Ravelry or Etsy I will receive your name, username, email address, or physical address. This information is used by me to process your order, communicate with you about your order if needed, or to send you updates to patterns as needed. The information I receive from those parties will be in my email inbox for about 2 years until I delete that year’s emails. Your username, email address, and payment details will be saved for 7 years as part of the required tax information I must keep stored. Most of the payments made to these sites are processed through PayPal. For further details about the information collected by these sites please see their respective Privacy Policies.

Search

Data Used: Any of the visitor-chosen search filters and query data in order to process a search request on the WordPress.com servers.

Sharing

Data Used: When official sharing buttons are active on the site, each button loads content directly from its service in order to display the button as well as information and tools for the sharing party. As a result, each service can in turn collect information about the sharing party. When a non-official Facebook or a Pinterest sharing button is active on the site, information such as the sharing party’s IP address as well as the page URL will be available for each service, so sharing counts can be displayed next to the button. When sharing content via email (this option is only available if Akismet is active on the site), the following information is used: sharing party’s name and email address (if the user is logged in, this information will be pulled directly from their account), IP address (for spam checking), user agent (for spam checking), and email body/content. This content will be sent to Akismet (also owned by Automattic) so that a spam check can be performed. Additionally, if reCAPTCHA (by Google) is enabled by the site owner, the sharing party’s IP address will be shared with that service. You can find Google’s privacy policy here.
