60 Crochet Patterns With 3 Weight Yarn

60 Crochet patterns using 3 weight yarn
Are you looking for crochet patterns made with 3 weight yarn, otherwise known as DK (double knitting), light worsted, or light weight yarns? You’ve come to the right place! In this crochet pattern roundup I have 60 crochet patterns to share with you, all of which use 3 weight yarn.
Yarn weight is kind of a confusing term because it actually refers to the thickness of a yarn, rather than its weight or mass. In the US, yarn weights are standardized by the Craft Yarn Council of America, and you can find all this info in this handy chart.
In the US, a lot of crocheters have been exposed to almost exclusively worsted weight yarn, or weight category 4, since that has for many years been what is largely available in “big box” stores like Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, JoAnn’s, and others.
Because of changes in the yarn industry that have seen yarn companies large and small, indie dyers, bloggers, designers, and especially those from outside the US, influence US crafters, other yarn weights are becoming more common to find used in patterns and in stores.

Table of Contents

There are SO MANY 3 weight yarns out there to choose from. There are indie dyers, many of which you can find by searching on Instagram or other social media channels, or by visiting local yarn and fiber events.
Large companies also have lots of DK weight yarn to choose from. There are brands like Cascade Yarns, Universal Yarn, Plymouth Yarn, King Cole, and others that sell exclusively through local yarn shops, and they each have a nice variety of light weight yarns to choose from.
There are also yarn companies that sell direct to consumers online, and also many that are starting to offer weight 3 and others in big box stores with which you may already be familiar.
As examples, I’ll link some of the 3 weight yarn available from my affiliate partners here:
Lion Brand weight category 3 yarns, like Mandala
We Crochet weight category 3 yarns, like City Tweed DK
Now lets jump into the patterns! I’ve broken them up into five categories below.
