Crochet 4th of July Coasters Free Pattern

Crochet 4th of July coasters

Start now and you can make these crochet 4th of July coasters before the holiday arrives! Celebrating something different? Make them in your own colors to match your decor or event!

These are made in size 10 cotton crochet thread. The pattern is free! It includes the instructions for three different circles. You can make whichever ones you like! I made my coasters double thick, so there are two circles crocheted together around the edges. The nice thing about this method is that you can just tuck your ends inside instead of weaving them in!

Pennant Coasters, Crochet 4th of July Coasters

Difficulty Level: Easy +

Finished Measurements: About 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter

Thread: Size 10 cotton crochet thread in red, white, and blue.

Crochet Hook: Size 4 (2 mm) steel hook.

Gauge: Circle made with directions below = 4 inches (10 cm) diameter.

For the coaster above with the blue wedge, make the Blue Wedge Circle for the front, and a solid circle for the back.

For the coaster above with the blue center, make the Blue-centered Circle for the front, and a solid circle for the back.

4 inch Circle Basic Instructions

Make an adjustable ring (Not sure how to do this? See my how-to video! Click here).

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 2, 15 dc in ring, pull tail to tighten, join to first st with sl st, turn — 15 sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st, join to first st with sl st, turn — 30 sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, dc in first st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st, repeat from * to last st, 2 dc in last st, join to first st with sl st, turn — 45 sts.

Rnd 4: Ch 2, dc in first 2 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, repeat from * to last st, 2 dc in last st, join to first st with sl st, turn — 60 sts.

Rnd 5: Ch 2, dc in first 3 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts, repeat from * to last st, 2 dc in last st, join to first st with sl st, turn — 75 sts.

Rnd 6: Ch 2, dc in first 4 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts, repeat from * to last st, 2 dc in last st, join to first st with sl st, turn — 90 sts.

Rnd 7: Ch 2, dc in first 5 sts, *2 dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts, repeat from * to last st, 2 dc in last st, join to first st with sl st, turn — 105 sts. Fasten off.

Solid Circle

Work the 7 rnds of the 4 inch Circle in just one color.

Blue-centered Circle

To change colors, work the last st of the rnd before the color change to the last yo, yo with the new color and finish the st, work the sl st in the new color, then begin next rnd with the new color. Leaving a 6-8 inch tail, cut previous color.

Work rnds 1-3 of 4 inch circle in blue, next 2 rnds in white, and last 2 rnds in red.

Blue Wedge Circle

Begin with red as for 4 inch Circle, following the alterations below.

Rnd 1: On 11th st work the last yo in blue and make last 4 sts of rnd in blue. Allow red thread to hang to WS.

Rnd 2: Begin rnd with blue, changing to white in last yo of the 8th st, work rem sts in white.

Rnd 3: Begin rnd with white, changing to blue for last 12 sts. Allow white thread to hang to WS.

Rnd 4: Begin rnd with blue, picking red back up (don”™t pull this float tight!) after first 16 sts, work rem sts in red.

Rnd 5: Begin rnd with red, changing to blue for last 20 sts. Leaving a 6-8 inch tail, cut red.

Rnd 6: Begin rnd with blue, picking white back up after the first 24 sts, work rem sts in white.

Rnd 7: Begin rnd with white, changing to blue for last 28 sts. Leaving a 6-8 inch tail, cut white. Fasten off blue.

Finishing

Place two circles together with WS facing each other, RS facing out. Working through both thicknesses (if you aren’t sure how to do this, watch my how-to video here), join the color of your choice to the edge with sc, *sc in next 12 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from * 7 times, join to first st with sl st — 113 sts. Fasten off.
