Free Crochet Valentine Garland Pattern

Crochet Valentine garland
This sweet, free crochet Valentine garland pattern uses three dimensional crochet hearts in three colors. The hearts are crocheted separately and then attached to a crochet chain as you go. Make one for your own home to decorate for the holiday or make one as a gift for a loved one. You could surprise them by decorating their room, home, or office space!
You could also include other shapes in the same color palette, like flowers from my Gardens Galore Garland crochet pattern, or tassels.

What yarn should I use?
I highly recommend Cascade Yarns Anthem, which is what I used for mine. Cascade Yarns was kind enough to provide the yarn for this design. This is a soft, premium acrylic yarn in a worsted weight. I used one skein each of #03 Red, #09 Pink, #38 Lemon, and #08 White.
What else will I need?
You will also need a size H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook, three locking stitch markers, poly-fil stuffing, and a yarn needle.
Where can I get the Crochet Valentine Garland pattern?
The Crochet Valentine Garland pattern is free in this blog post, just scroll down.
However, if you would prefer an inexpensive ad-free PDF you can purchase one on Ravelry or Etsy.

When making hearts, work tightly. Hearts are worked in the round without joining or turning at the end of rnds. Hearts are made separately. The garland is put together by making a long chain that is stitched to the hearts as you make the chain.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around – 12 sts.
Rnd 3: Sc in each st around, sl st in next st. Fasten off.
Repeat Rnds 1-3 for second heart top, but do not fasten off. Continue to heart body.

Heart body
Rnd 1: With hook in current working loop of second heart top, sc in any st of first heart top, sc in each rem st of first heart top, sc in first unworked st of second heart top, sc in each st around second heart top – 24 sts.
Rnd 2: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 3: Sc in first 5 sts, sc3tog over next 3 sts, place m in the decrease, sc in next 9 sts, sc3tog over next 3 sts, place m in the decrease st, sc in last 4 sts – 20 sts.
Rnd 4: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 5: Sc to 1 st before first m, sc3tog over next 3 sts with marked st in the middle, sc to 1 st before second m, sc3tog over next 3 sts with marked st in the middle, sc to end of rnd – 16 sts.
Alternate repeating Rnds 4 and 5 until 12 sts remain. Fill with stuffing.
Repeat Rnds 4 and 5 once more — 8 sts.
Add a little more stuffing if needed. Sl st in next st. Fasten off with a long tail. Using a yarn needle, run tail back and forth through tops of sts and pull tail to close. Secure with a knot and weave tail into the center of the heart.
Garland
With White, *ch 30, sc around one of the sts in rnd 2 of one of the tops of a heart, repeat from * until each heart is attached to the garland, ch 30. Fasten off.
