Pemba Mittens, a Free Crochet Mitten Pattern

Free Crochet Mitten Pattern from Banana Moon Studio

Pemba Mittens is a free crochet mitten pattern made in Ancient Arts Yarns Lascaux, a worsted weight yarn that is 25% Manx Loaghtan and 75% Punta Arenas Wool. You might wonder, what type of fiber is that? Manx Loaghtan is a breed of sheep. A rare breed. When you purchase yarn made from the wool of rare breeds, you contribute to the preservation of the breed. I invite you to read more about this breed by clicking here. Punta Arenas is a city in southern Chile, so I believe this portion of the fiber comes from that area. You can purchase this wonderful yarn from Ancient Arts Yarns, or from an LYS that carries it. Click here to go the the Ancient Arts website.

  1. Do you really turn after completing each round? If you’re slip stitching to the first stitch of the round, and then turning, it doesn’t seem to make sense. I hope you can clarify.

    1. Yes, you turn after each round. The rounds that include the treble stitches work better to create the texture if they are WS rows, but the sc-only rounds look nicer as RS rows. You are welcome to try it without turning and see if you like it that way, but I prefer the look of this stitch pattern when you turn between rounds. Thanks for your interest!
