Crochet Crinkle Stitch, Free Video Tutorial
The Crinkle Stitch
The crochet Crinkle Stitch has fantastic texture but it is simple to do. A lot of crochet texture can be complicated, but not the Crinkle Stitch! In this post I share a video tutorial for this great crochet stitch that you can use for scarves, blankets, tops, hats, and mittens, as I did.

What can I make with the Crinkle Stitch?
You can make almost anything with the crochet Crinkle Stitch! You could easily work this into a baby blanket, dish rag, towel, or scarf. With a little shaping, you could use it for hats, sweaters, slippers, you name it!
I crocheted mittens with the Crinkle Stitch! You can get my free Pemba Mittens crochet pattern here. They are in the picture at the top of this post. The pattern is written in three sizes for both children and adults. The pattern uses just one skein of Ancient Arts Yarn Lascaux Worsted, which is a yarn that includes wool from the rare sheep breed Manx Loaghtan.
How is that great texture produced with the Crinkle Stitch?
The trick to the texture is the mixture of tall and short stitches! On each wrong side row, you will alternate single and treble crochet stitches. The shorter single crochet stitches pull the tops of the treble crochet stitches down, causing the post, or body, of the stitch the bend outward and stick out on the right side of the fabric. Watch the video and you’ll see!
What are the written instructions for the Crinkle Stitch?
By April Garwood of Banana Moon Studio
Ch an even number
Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. You will now have an odd number of sts, one less than the number of your starting chain.
Row 2 Ch 1, *sc in first st, tr in next st, repeat from * to last st, sc in last st, turn.
Row 3 Ch 1, sc across, turn.
Alternate repeating Rows 2 and 3 for pattern. I suggest you end with a Row 3 repeat.
When you have achieved your desired length, fasten off.
