How are the two colors worked in spiral?
This slouchy beanie crochet pattern uses a technique of spiraling two colors around one another. It is different than how you typically work in the round.

In this technique you begin the first round with a magic ring and then half the stitches in color A. Then you take your hook out of the loop, place a stitch marker in it to prevent unraveling, and then place a slip knot of color B on your hook.
The color B stitches are then worked into the magic ring. They are not joined to the color A stitches in any way. You just place the first stitch directly into the magic ring.
Then you work the second half of the first round in color B.
For each successive round you start the round with the color you were using at the end of the previous round. You place the first stitch of the round directly into the first stitch of the last round. There is no joining or turning at the end of rounds.
The first half of the round will be worked with this color, then you will remove your hook from the loop and place a stitch marker in it to prevent unraveling. Then you will put your hook into the live loop of the other color, removing the stitch marker from it first.
The second half of the round consists of working in the color you’ve just switched to.
I recommend always placing a stitch marker in the first stitch of the round so that it is easy to identify the start of the round.
If that explanation isn’t clear to you, I recommend watching the tutorial video for this slouchy beanie crochet pattern below. If you don’t manage the colors correctly, your colors won’t spiral and you won’t get the benefits of smooth color changes mentioned.

Notes
The hat is extra long for either folding up the bottom edge or wearing slouchy.
The colors in this hat spiral around one another.
The hat begins with half the stitches in color A. When you finish the color A stitches, you will take the color A loop off your hook, put a locking stitch marker in the loop to keep it from unraveling, put a slip knot of color B on your hook, and then make the color B stitches. You will not join the last stitch to the first one at the end of the round.
The next round begins by continuing with color B and placing the first stitch directly into the first color A stitch of round 1. Put a locking stitch marker into the first stitch to mark the beginning of the round.
You will continue working in color B for half the round, working all of these stitches into color A stitches from round 1. Then you will take the color B loop off your hook, move the stitch marker from the color A loop to the color B loop, put your hook in the color A loop, and begin stitching into the color B stitches for the second half of round 2.
If you aren’t familiar with this method of working, I highly suggest you watch the tutorial video until you get the hang of it. It is different than the normal method of working in the round.

Finishing
Weave in all ends.
Sew button to inside of hat right next to center top hole.
Use a small crochet hook to pull elastic loop of pom to inside of hat and secure around button.
If your pom has two ties, pull each to inside of hat through different holes on either side of center top hole and tie in a bow inside hat.
Always remove poms before washing.
That finishes this slouchy beanie crochet pattern. I hope you’ve enjoyed this crochet project. I would love to see your in-process or finished hats! You can share them on Instagram and tag me or you can join my friendly Facebook group and share them there.
