Bobble stitch crochet square
Crochet squares are such versatile little projects. This bobble stitch crochet square can be put together to make a poncho, scarf, sweater, blanket, table runner, pillow, and more! This square was particularly designed to be a part of the Sampler Poncho CAL hosted by Itchin’ For Some Stitchin’.

How to crochet a bobble stitch
Not sure how to crochet a bobble stitch? No problem! I have a video for that. You can see a tutorial video for the bobble stitch here.
Basically it involves putting 5 partial double crochet stitches all in one spot, then finishing off the tops of them together. That cluster of several stitches pops out into this little pocket.
The written instructions for a bobble stitch look like this: [Yarn over (yo), place hook in designated st, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops] 5 times, yo, pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch 1 tightly to close.
One important tip to working in bobble stitch is that in the non-bobble st rows, you don’t want to place a stitch in those chains that you made to close the bobbles, just in the bobbles themselves. So look for those chains and skip them.
What other bobble stitch crochet projects can I make?
I have three other crochet designs that use bobble stitches! I also have an e-book of bobble stitch capital letters that is available on Ravelry and Etsy.

Sampler Poncho CAL
The Sampler Poncho CAL was a fun and educational crochet along hosted by Itchin’ For Some Stitchin’. This event has already ended. During the event, three days a week a free crochet square pattern was free to download. My Boulder Bobble Stitch Crochet Square was featured as part of this event.
The squares designed for this event present a great opportunity to learn new crochet stitches! You will learn all these stitches while making the squares. Then you can use them later on for other projects like blankets, scarves, and more. The square patterns will be a great resource to hang onto if you need stitch ideas or reminders later on.
Each square pattern was free to download on it’s feature day, including mine, by visiting the CAL roundup page.
The square patterns are not longer available as free downloads, but you still have the option to get the square and poncho assembly instructions all at once by purchasing the pattern bundle. This includes all 24 squares and the instructions to put them together into this beautiful poncho!
Where else can I get this bobble stitch crochet square pattern?
The pattern will always be available free here in this post. Scroll down for the free, ad-supported version.
If you decide to use the free version, please bookmark this page and come back to it when you work on your project rather than trying to print or screenshot the page. Your time on this page helps me get paid for my work, so thank you!
You also have the option to purchase the inexpensive ad-free PDF that is great for downloading and printing. It is available in both my Ravelry and Etsy shops.

Notes About Using Charts
Each row of the written instructions has a matching row on the corresponding chart. Bobbles are represented by the colored boxes and bobble rows are all WS rows. Each box represents one stitch. Because the squares are symmetric, it won’t matter which side you start on for each row.
