Can you make a hat with bulky yarn?

You might be wondering if bulky yarn is good for crocheting hats. Bulky yarn is a great choice for crochet hats! The thick yarn creates a warm beanie that’s great for time spent outdoors in the winter.

In addition to making warm hats, it’s also quicker to crochet a hat in bulky yarn. Thicker yarn and bigger hooks make bigger stitches, so you can crochet the needed measurements for a hat more quickly with bulky yarn than you can with thinner weights of yarn.

It also takes fewer yards of yarn to crochet a hat in bulky yarn than it does to make one with worsted or other thinner weights of yarn. So it can be more cost effective to use bulky yarn.

  1. How much yarn would it take to make an adult small beginner hat? Approximately 100 yards or 150? I have a skein of #5 bulky yarn, but it is a different brand and not as large. Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you.
