A Crochet Cardigan for Girls

Jacket & Jill is a crochet cardigan for little girls in sizes 4, 6, 8, and 10 and made with Lionbrand Yarns Cotton-Ease (Worsted weight, 207yd/188m per skein). You’ll need 1 to 2 skeins of the main color, and 1 skein of the secondary color, plus some satin ribbon for the closure.

The cardigan is made from the top-down with raglan sleeves, and there is no seaming! Did you read that?!?  NO seaming!

The difficulty level is “intermediate”.  The stitches of this cardigan aren’t complicated, but the yoke section is just a little complicated.  Dividing into body and sleeves is a little bit complicated.  If you’re a confident crocheter, this will be no problem.  Once you get past that point, it’s easy peasy.

This pattern was originally released as part of my ebook Banana Moon Studio Book One: Girls. I think this is my favorite design in the e-book.  I love the way it fits and the way the stitch pattern naturally creates a scalloped edge on the bottom.

Finished Measurements

27 [30, 33, 36] inches or 68.5 [76, 84, 91.5] cm chest circumference.

8¾ [9¾, 13¼, 14¼] inches or 21.5 [25, 33.5, 36] cm from neckline to bottom edge.

Yarn

Lion Brand® Cotton-Ease® (50% Cotton, 50% Acrylic; 207 yd/188 m; 3.50 oz/100g); Weight Category 4/worsted weight.

#113 Cherry (A), 1[2, 2, 2] skeins

#123 Seaspray (B), 1 skein

Hook

H/8 (5mm) crochet hook, or size needed to match gauge.

Notions

5 [7, 5, 7] locking stitch markers, yarn needle, about 24″ or 61 cm length of 1″ or 2.5 cm wide ribbon, sewing needle, sewing thread to match ribbon.

Gauge

3 pattern repeats = 4½” or 11.5 cm in pattern stitch.

7 rows = 4″ or 10 cm in pattern stitch.

Notes

Cardigan begins at neckline and is worked down to underarms with raglan shaping.

Then work is divided into body and sleeves which are worked top down.

Block to measurements.

Cut ribbon into 2 equal lengths. Fold under one end of first piece about ½ inches (1.5cm). Use sewing thread and needle to sew to WS of top of one side of front opening. Repeat with second piece on opposite side.

Weave in all ends.
