It’s time to begin the Codex Alera CAL! Today we begin the shawl with the double crochet section. This will be both the easiest, and longest section of the shawl. I’ll share the written pattern below as well as a video to demonstrate the stitches needed for this section.

Alera Shawl Pattern, Section 1
Notes We begin today at one corner of the shawl. There is an increase in every row, all on the same side of the piece. Every fourth row will decrease on the opposite side of the shawl. Watch the video if you need help with it. Enjoy!
Double Crochet Section
Row 1 Sk first 2 chs (does not count as a st), dc in rem 2 chs, turn — 2 sts
Row 2 Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc across, turn — 3 sts.
Row 3 Ch 2, dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st, turn — 4 sts.
Row 4 Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in each st to last 2 sts, dc2tog over last 2 sts, turn — 4 sts.
Row 5 Ch 2, dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st, turn — 5 sts.
Repeat Rows 2-5 for pattern
Work in pattern for a total of 103 rows — 79 sts.
