What yarn do I need to crochet this ghost?

I used We Crochet Comfy Fingering Weight for this Halloween ghost crochet pattern. This is a 75/25 blend of Pima cotton and acrylic with 218 yds to each 50 g skein. I suggest using this yarn or something very close to it, as the hook size and gauge were chosen to for this yarn to get the right drape for the ghost.

You can purchase this yarn with my affiliate link here.

In addition to the yarn, you will need a size K crochet hook, some black felt, a clear or white 5 oz plastic cup, a sharp large-eye needle, and some string for hanging your ghost.

What skills will I need to know to crochet this ghost?

As with all my patterns, please don’t make digital or paper copies for others. Instead, please direct them to my website to get their own copy. Thank you!

Difficulty Level: Easy

Finished Measurements: Granny square is about 9 3/4 inches square. Assembled ghost is about 6 inches tall, not including string.

Yarn: We Crochet Comfy Fingering (75% Pima Cotton, 25% Acrylic; 218 yds; 50 g; yarn weight 1/Super Fine): 1 skein #24812 White.

Crochet Hook: K (6.5 mm), or size needed to obtain gauge. Yes this is an unusally large hook for fingering weight yarn. This large hook is needed to get a square with the proper drape for the ghost.

Notions: Black felt cut into two 1/4 inch tall ovals, fabric glue, 5 oz white or clear plastic cup, sharp large-eye needle, string to blend in with where you will hang the ghost.

Gauge: 3 round of granny square pattern = About 3 3/4 inches square.

Finishing

Weave in ends. Block the granny square by soaking in water about 15 minutes, pressing between layers of a towel, and stretching out flat dry with edges straight.

Assembly

Use fabric glue to attach eyes to two corner 3-dc clusters in Row 2.

A white granny square on a brown burlap background. Two black felt ovals are glue to the granny square and a hand holds a bottle of fabric glue above the crochet piece. Text on the image reads: Banana Moon Studio.

Use string that will blend in with whatever you plan to hang your ghost from. Cut a piece of thread about 24 inches long and thread onto needle, folding thread in half with ends even.

Two hands hold a clear plastic cup on the left and a large sharp needle with brown thread through it on the right. Under the hands is a white crochet granny square over a piece of burlap with balls of yarn and a tea cup in the background. Text on the image reads: Banana Moon Studio.

Starting on the outside of cup, poke needle through center of bottom of cup. Being careful not to poke yourself, pull the needle through far enough to cut the fold of the thread and remove needle. Don’t pull thread all the way through. Take the two ends inside the cup and tie an overhand knot. From the outside of the cup, pull the thread until the knot pulls up against the cup bottom and stops the thread.

Hands hold a small clear plastic cup with a needle poked through the bottom of it. The left hand is reaching into the cup to pull the needle through further. In the background we see a white crochet granny square, burlap fabric, balls of yarn, and a tea cup. Text on the image reads: Banana Moon Studio.
Two hands hole a small clear plastic cup with brown string coming through the bottom of it and tied in a knot. Under and behind the hands we see a white crochet granny square, burlap fabric, balls of yarn, and a tea cup. Text on the image reads: Banana Moon Studio.

Place a small (about size G) crochet hook through the very center of the granny square starting from the RS, use it to pull the string through the center of the granny square.

White crochet granny square with two black felt "ghost eyes" on it sitting on burlap fabric. Two hands hold the granny square and a wooden crochet hook that is poked through the center of the granny square. Text on the image reads: Banana Moon Studio.

Use the two string ends to attach your ghost wherever you’d like to hang it. I suggest tying it in a bow so that you can remove and rehang easily for next year.

Enjoy!

Now your crochet Halloween ghost is finished! I would so love to see photos of your finished ghost! You can share your project on Ravelry or in my Facebook group and I will see it.
