What supplies will I need to knit this Christmas ornament?
You’ll need about 40 yds of striping sock yarn to complete this Christmas ornament knitting pattern. I used Cascade Yarns Heritage Prints, and they have several colorways that would make fun Christmas ornaments. You can usually find Cascade Yarns at your local yarn shop, and if they don’t have it in stock, they can probably order it for you.
Also, you will need US size 1 1/2 (2.5 mm) double pointed needles or long circular needles for the Magic Loop Method. I recommend this set of DPNs from KnitPicks, and they also have single DPN sets available.
You will also need a stitch marker, a tapestry needle, and stuffing.
What skills will I need to knit this Christmas ornament?
You’ll need to know all the basic things like casting on and knit stitches.
In addition, you will need to know how to knit in the round. The increase stitch used is the kfb (knit front and back). The decrease stitch used is the ssk (slip, slip, knit). This post includes a video tutorial for the ssk stitch.
The suggested bind off has you knit two stitches together through the back loop (tbl).

Good Morning! I love this! But I want you to know that it’s not free with the link. Is there a coupon code we can use? Or Maybe I’m doing it wrong (quite a possibility)!
Thank you for doing this!
I’m sorry! It *is* free, but it’s misleading… (coding issues, I assume) You actually have to go to ‘buy it now’ and THEN it says it’s free… I hope this helps all who are looking for such a fun pattern for the Holidays!
Hi Daria,
I know it looked a little confusing on Ravelry. Once the item was in your cart, it showed that it was free. That just how Ravelry’s system works when you have a pattern that is free as part of a promotion, but isn’t normally free. It doesn’t show the discount until after the item is in your cart. Hope all that wanted it were able to get it! Merry Christmas!
