Is this an easy knitting pattern?

Yes, it is! Believe it or not, this square is just made with simple knits and purls. If you can knit those two basic stitches, you can knit this lovely fall pattern.

What supplies will I need to knit this?

For this maple leaf knitting pattern you will need yarn, knitting needles, and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends. You could knit this square in any yarn and needles to compliment your yarn thickness, though your square will be a different size than mine if you use a different yarn weight and/or a different needle size.

I used size 8 bamboo knitting needles from Clover.

The yarn I used is Swish Worsted from Knit Picks, which is a 100% Fine Superwash Merino Wool yarn that is squishy and soft. Each 50 g skein contains about 110 yds of yarn. One skein is more than enough to make one of these squares. My finished square weights about 23 g, so you should be able to get two squares out of one skein.

Cozy Fall MAL

My Maple Leaf Knit Square is the featured knit square pattern of the Cozy Fall MAL on October 18, 2022. This event is hosted by Knitting With Chopsticks and Noor’s Knits. Each weekday of October brings you free patterns for crochet, Tunisian crochet, and knit squares. The patterns are free on the designer’s websites. If you prefer PDF versions to download and print there are pattern bundles available!

Each purchase of a pattern bundle helps support Cure Childhood Cancer, an organization that supports patients, their families, and cancer research. 30% of each purchase is donated, the remainder of each purchase is split between the designers and the event hosts.

You can get a bundle for your chosen craft(s), or you can get all three pattern bundles at a further discount.

If you prefer the free patterns, you can get those by visiting the pattern roundups each day and following the links to the free patterns. I suggest bookmarking the designer’s pages in case you’d like to go back to those patterns later.
