I loved making this recycled sari silk yarn! I used natural white Blue-faced Leicester (BFL) wool as the base fiber and spun bits of the silk into it to give the fun pops of color. Spinning with recycled sari silk threads seemed a bit intimidating at first. The threads come pretty tangled up, and sometimes in dense clumps. I had a few false starts before making the beautiful yarn that you see here, but it didn’t take me long to figure out how to work with them and I had a lot of fun doing it.

I’ve been working with recycled materials all year and have enjoyed working with some really great yarn and fiber! To finish off the year, watch below to see how I made this recycled sari silk handspun yarn.

Now some exciting news! I am going to give away the two skeins of yarn I showed you in this post and video! The two skeins together total 419 yds /151 g of roughly DK/3/light weight yarn. It is what we would call a “thick and thin” yarn, meaning that it’s thickness is somewhat inconsistent. It is roughly 75% Blue-faced Leicester Wool and 25% Recycled Sari Silk. Visit me on Instagram between 12/26 and 12/31 and find the picture of this yarn for the details! I will announce the winner on New Year’s Day!

  1. Beautiful yarn. Loved watching the tutorial. Makes me want to learn to spin but I think my husband might draw the line at one more fiber hobby 🙂
