A floral crochet blanket square

Mum crochet blanket square is the first square of the Fall Feels CAL! This flower crochet granny square starts with a lace center that looks like a chrysanthemum, a flower that blooms in the fall and is often used for fall decor. Around the flower center there is solid stitching to change the circular shape into a square.

Fall Feels Throw and CAL

The Fall Feels CAL begins on October 4th with this pretty, floral crochet square being the first section of the pattern. In the crochet along we will be making a fall throw blanket and chatting about our progress and all things fall in my Facebook group.

.

Those who participate in the group will be entered to win one of three stitch marker sets during the CAL! It is free to participate in the CAL, though there is an option to purchase a PDF of the pattern if you prefer an ad-free PDF that is easy to download and print.

If you decide to use the free version, please bookmark this page and come back to it when you work on your project rather than trying to print or screenshot the page. Your time on this page helps me get paid for my work, so thank you!

Get all the details about the CAL here and join in the fun!

Cozy Fall MAL

I was also invited to participate in the Cozy Fall MAL with Knitting with Chopsticks and Noor’s Knits. The two events overlapped, so the Mum Crochet Blanket Square is also going to be featured in this event on October 11th. If you are here for that event, welcome! I’m glad you’re here.

Each weekday in October there will be a new crochet blanket square pattern released that is free on the designer’s blog. Many days of the event will also have a knit or Tunisian crochet square as well! I will have a knit square featured one day next week, so keep your eyes open for that if you are or would like to be a knitter.

See all the crochet square patterns here!

My Mum Crochet Blanket Square is featured in the crochet along, but you can find the Tunisian crochet along here, or the knit along here.

There is an option to purchase pattern bundles of the squares in the make along. 30% of the purchase price will be donated to Cure Childhood Cancer, an organization that helps support affected patients and families as well as research to help fight cancer.

If you are interested in the free blanket square pattern, it is in this post and you can scroll down to get that. If you would like one or more of the pattern bundles click the buttons below for those.

What yarn will I need for this granny square?

I used Cascade Yarns Pacific for my Mum Crochet Blanket Square and for the Fall Feels Throw. This is a worsted weight blend of acrylic and merino wool that is soft and easy to care for. Each 100 g skeins contains about 213 yds of yarn. Your local yarn shop is the best place to purchase this yarn. If they don’t have it in stock, they can probably order it for you.

To make eight of the Mum Crochet Blanket Square for the Fall Feels Throw you will need 2 skeins of Cascade Yarns Pacific #113 Bordeaux.

If you choose to use a different yarn, you will get the best results with a yarn that is the same weight and fiber content.

What else will I need for this flower crochet square?

You will need a size J (6 mm) crochet hook and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Is there a video tutorial for this crochet granny square?

Yes, there is! This square begins with a magic ring. This is my favorite way to begin granny squares. You will use double crochet, single crochet, and chains in this square. If you need help with any of that, I’ve made a full video tutorial for this square, and you can watch that on YouTube by clicking the thumbnail image below.
