What can I do with a crochet circle?

Crochet circles can be used on their own as a coaster, a placemat, a tablecloth, or a blanket.

.

They can be used as the foundation of other projects like hats, Christmas stockings, blanket squares, and more!

One of my patterns that uses a double crochet circle, is my Basically Beanie. You can get that free pattern here.

Written instructions for a double crochet circle

Note: if you aren’t sure how to do any of these stitches or techniques, check out the video below!

Begin your circle with a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), 12 dc in ring, join to first st with sl st — 12 sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, join to first st with sl st — 24 sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * around — 36 sts.

Rnd 4: Ch 2, *1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * around — 48 sts.

From here you can continue going in rnds by adding 1 additional single stitch before the increase. So Rnd 5 will have 3 single sts before the increase. Rnd 6 will have 4 single sts before the increase. Rnd 7 will have 5 single sts before the increase and so on.

Continue in this pattern until your circle has reached the desired size. Fasten off. Block if needed.

What yarn and crochet hook are used in this video?

The yarn I used in this video is Revival Worsted from Ancient Arts Fibre Crafts, one of my favorite indie dyers out of Canada. You can order this yarn in many beautiful hand-dyed colorways here.

The crochet hook I used in this video is a Susan Bates size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook. You can purchase this hook from Amazon here.
