Hinton Hat is a unique crochet ribbed hat pattern. It is a free crochet pattern that you can get right here on my blog! You will use single crochet in the back loop (sc BLO) and short rows to shape the crown. The single crochet in the back loop stitch pattern gives the hat a smooshy, stretchy texture that is really delightful to wear! I used We Crochet’s Chroma Worsted to make the hat, which was provided by We Crochet. Many thanks to them for sponsoring this pattern and video.

What techniques are used to crochet this ribbed hat?
I really enjoy the squishy texture of single crochet in the back loop fabric! I wanted to see if I could design a crochet ribbed hat pattern made entirely in this stitch. And I did!
While making this hat you will chain (ch), single crochet (sc), single crochet in the back loop only (sc BLO), use short rows, seam, single crochet two stitches together (sc2tog), and fasten off. In the video below I did not demonstrate how to chain. I did not demonstrate the single crochet stitch slowly. If you need help with those stitches I suggest my tutorial on crocheting chains and my tutorial on the single crochet stitch.
In the video below I will show you how to single crochet in the back loop only, how to use short rows to shape the crown of the hat, how to seam the hat, and how to single crochet two stitches together.

What yarn is that and where can I get it?
The yarn that I used is from We Crochet / Knit Picks and is called Chroma Worsted. It is a single ply worsted weight yarn that stripes as you go. Each ball contains 198 yds and 100 g of yarn and it’s made of 70% Superwash Wool and 30% Nylon. You can order this yarn from We Crochet here.
